About Jamie Smith Jackson
Jamie Smith Jackson was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up traveling to the
Smith I Bar Ranch on the weekends. She spent her days and nights hunting for
Indian artifacts, hiking and learning how to dance with the cowboys! She received
an MFA in drawing and printmaking and decided to venture out to California.
In 1979, she and her 6 year old daughter moved to San Francisco. There she and her
daughter became involved with the cultural and worldly events of that amazing city.
During the weekdays Jamie was a commercial interior designer, and at the end of
the week, she and her daughter traveled the bay area. In 1984, they moved to Tokyo,
Japan with her new husband and taught English as a second language. After one year
it was time to return to San Francisco and there she started her own business specializing
in commercial design and project management. She became known for her founding
of The Downtown Club, a woman’s moral support group in San Francisco. She was and
still is a fervent supporter of working women. After 15 years in California, she
returned to her roots in Texas to develop the recreational area of her family’s
100 year old ranch. JJ’s Rockin’ Retreat, Inc. Has now been in operation for 5 years
and continues to grow. It has become a haven for city weary people who need space,
fresh air and privacy. The retreat has also become a place for families to celebrate,
men to revel and couples to rejuvenate. You might say that Jamie Smith Jackson has
gone full circle…
